

Dick was born on January 19, 1924 in Raleigh to the late Richard W. Kennison and Gertrude Sliter Kennison.
Growing up in Raleigh, as a 12 year old, Dick was the first Cub Scout in the Occoneechee Council to cross over into Boy Scouting. Dick was an Olde Raleigh Boy, graduating from Hugh Morson High School, then North Carolina State College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Dick was active in the social life of the Raleigh community, including Olde Raleigh Boys, The Assembly Cotillion, Raleigh Little Theater, and SPEBSQSA. He also was an active volunteer, as a board member of The Hilltop Home, the Raleigh Kiwanis Club, and the American Red Cross.
While working in Erie, Pennsylvania, he met, married, and brought back to Raleigh “the prettiest Yankee in the world.”
Dick was not only preceded in death by his parents, but also by his grandson Derek Proctor.
Surviving Dick are his wife Caroline Smith Kennison of Raleigh; four daughters Rebecca Kennison , Catherine Ann K. Daniels, Joanne “Jody” K. Grayson all of Raleigh, Kimberly K. Missert of Atlanta, GA; sister Elizabeth K. Pease of Nebraska; five grandchildren Erin Proctor, David Gillespie, Christie Gillespie, Alexander Missert and Nicholas Missert.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Friday, June 24, 2011 at Christ Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday in the Springmoor Auditorium.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Springmoor Endowment Fund, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, NC 27615
