Dick graduated from Pepin High School in May, 1942. The next year he enlisted into the Navy and proudly served on the USS Lionfish until the end of the war. After WWII he settled in Connecticut. While living in Connecticut he met and married Julia Adomaitis on September 22, 1950.
In 1964, Dick founded Engine Service Products in Charlotte, NC. He and his wife, Julie, operated the business until the early 1990s. During this time he was committed to his work with the Hickory Grove chapter of the Lions Club and to cultivating his large vegetable garden.
After retirement Dick worked for the Metrolina Association for the Blind. In 2014 he relocated to Morrisville, NC to be closer to his family in the Raleigh area.
Dick is predeceased by his parents and siblings, Ralph, George, Don, Bob, Howard and Mary. He lost his beloved wife, Julie, on August 6, 1992.
He is survived by his children, Sharon Meinhold of Rock Hill, SC, Jim Lewis of Charlotte, NC and Barbara Henry (Tom) of Raleigh NC. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Stephen Meinhold (MacKenzie) of Park City, UT, Amelia Kiechle (David) of Apex, NC and Kathryn Henry (Justin Smith) of Cary, NC. He is also survived by three great grandsons, Watson Meinhold, Michael Kiechle and Nicholas Kiechle. He will forever hold in his heart his loving companion for more than twenty years, Jane Jackson, of Matthews, NC.
A private family service will be held in the future.
