Raised in Sandersville, GA to parents JB and Miriam Wall, Richard attended local schools then went on to train at Stetson University and LSU. A talented pianist at a young age, Richard succeeded in having a long and successful career in New York City as a professional musician, conductor and church organist. He conducted several touring Broadway shows, including Chicago with Chita Rivera and Whoopee! with Imogene Coca. He was a well-respected vocal coach and accompanist in the Broadway community in NYC. Perhaps most notably, he appeared as Douglas, a featured role in the independent film “Parting Glances,” starring Steve Buscemi.
After relocating to Chapel Hill, Richard managed classical FM radio station WCPE. He worked closely with Long Leaf Opera as a pianist, coach and musical adviser, and worked at Duke University conducting the Duke Children’s golf classic celebrity show
Richard is survived by a sea of friends, students and colleagues who, through his generous talent and spirit, were touched and made better for it.
A memorial service is planned in the near future in Chapel Hill.
