After a tough second bout with cancer, Robert Spencer Grosvenor, 71, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He was the eldest child of Mary Frances Grosvenor and the late Clifford Ray Grosvenor. Born in Long Beach, California, Spence lived in many cities throughout the country, but spent his formulative years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After attending the University of Tulsa and the University of Oklahoma, he honorably served two tours of duty with the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his military service, he lived briefly in Texas, before moving to North Carolina and joining his family’s retail lighting business, eventually establishing his own successful landscape lighting contracting company in 1990.
In addition to his mother, Spence is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Kathy Sneed Grosvenor; his son, Simon Grosvenor (Kelli); step-granddaughter, Kathryn Adams; and siblings, David Grosvenor (Heidi), Linda Savage (John), and Nancy Brightup (John); parents-in-law, Ronald and Shelba Sneed; sister-in-law, Leigh Sneed Berrier (Chris); and brother-in-law, Richard Cuadra (Sharon). Four nieces, three nephews, and their families will also lovingly remember their Uncle Spence. He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Tamara Cuadra.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, with services led by the Reverends Marc and Kim Wyatt.
