Robert Babbitt Hicks was born in Chicago, Il. on May 1st, 1928 and passed away on July 16th, 2022, in Raleigh, NC. He was he only son of the late, George Mayhew Hicks and Helen Babbitt Hicks. He had two sisters, Betty Easterday from Phoenix, AZ. and Barbara Dutton of Penn Valley, CA.
Robert and his wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen, had two children, David Alan Hicks and Sandra Jean Hicks, all who survive him. He is also survived by many grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. That is not the only thing that made him Great.
Robert served in the United States Army Signal Corps, 1950 - 1952. Returning from the Korean War, he resumed his education at the University of Illinois at Champaign.
Upon graduation with his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, he joined General Electric Company in 1957. Then retired from GE in September of 1988 and managed to be retired longer than he worked.
Robert and Mary Ellen Hicks have been members of Edenton Street United Methodist Church for over 34 years. His memorial service will be held there on Sunday, July 24th at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Garden Gallery of the church.
