

Robert was born in New York, NY on April 6, 1935 to the late Janice F. and John O. Hobson, of Pinehurst, NC.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Lib) Fensel Hobson; sister, Gail Hobson Burroughs and brother, William Calwell Hobson.
Robert is survived by his sons, Michael Campbell Hobson and wife Lauren, Robert Walker Hobson and wife Kate, both of Raleigh, NC and daughter Kristin Hobson Albertson and husband Brian of Rome, GA; sister, Lee Hobson Crawford and husband Bob of Charleston, SC; and five grandchildren, Peyton Albertson of Augusta, GA, Jack Albertson of Rome, GA., Ann Campbell Hobson and Piper Hobson of Raleigh, NC, and Robert W. “Bo” Hobson, Jr., also of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by six nieces and nephews.
After graduating from St. James School in Hagerstown, MD, Robert attended Duke University.
During college Robert began working for Dillard Paper Company, which he enjoyed a career in paper sales spanning over 30 years for Dillard and which later became part of International Paper in Raleigh, before retiring to Wilmington in 2001. Robert also enjoyed memberships in the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh and the L’Arioso German Club of Wilmington.
He was a diehard Duke basketball fan but also an avid fan of all ACC sports. Golf was his true hobby, whether it be a friendly wager with friends several times a week, watching or reading golf history. His family, but especially Lib and his three children is what Robert cherished most of all.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Spring Arbor of Cary for their outstanding and loving care the last two and half years. A special thanks to Transitions LifeCare for their compassion over the last year.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Robert’s life at a later date.
