I grew up in Springdale and I saw Robbie a lot while driving my car either home or to a job or somewhere. He always recognized me and waved as I drove by his house or even the mobile home he lived in across Leesville Rd. I used to have a lawn care service back in those days and when I threw my back out he wanted to help me and he did! He cut grass for about a week or so until I was ok to work again. What a hell of a guy! You are being thought of right now and may God bless you. RIP

I just learned of Robbie's accident.  So sorry and saddened to hear of your loss.  Robbie was a big hearted guy who we had the privilege of knowing through our son David Jezik.  I will always remember how caring he was and how he would go out of his way to help others.  May God bless and mend your hearts over your loss.

Robbie was a childhood friend, teammate for soccer (thanks for pic Pat), fellow Jeffrey’s Grove bus rider (‘Red A’ bus ruled) and a good tough neighbor. Leesville/Springdale area was wonderful place to grow up and that Shuffler farm with Robbie was part of foundation of it. We saw it as we came and went then. 
The bible speaks of those with a strong spirit such as Joshua, who are memorable and Robbie had that amongst his peers. One knew he was around with a laugh and voice. 
I returned to the area in 1999 and before a snow & being nearby i spontaneously pulled into his driveway to buy firewood for my new house. Amongst the other many customers waiting i thought “how would this go? So many years?!?“
Robbie pulled up in his bobcat with wood for the car next to me and instantly yelled out with a “Hey Cliff how ya doing!?” Like it was only yesterday. Thanks friend. 
Grace and Peace

Some amazing memories  with Robby and all are full of adventure, laughs and good times. I’ll never forget him making a special boat day for my now husband and friends for my husbands birthday almost 8 years ago!! We had many great days on the lake typically accompanied by Tyler and Emily, he loved you both so very much and it was very clear in everything he did.  My heart is with you both right now. 

I've known Robby most of my life since we moved out to Strickland Rd. about forty years ago. He was fearless on the soccer field and I have too many stories to tell about how much fun we had. He was definitely a dude you wanted on your team if a fight broke out. We played on multiple teams and covered countless miles traveling to tournaments often in the bed of his daddy's pick up truck. Yes we slept in the back from Northern Virginia home which is hard to imagine. His dad loved him dearly and  was a big part of Robby's kind and giving nature. After many years of not being in touch we reconnected when I moved back to Raleigh. I will cherish the more recent times as we laughed heartily about our upbringing. He will be missed. Rhonda and family my heart is broken but I will focus my pain toward remembrance and grateful thoughts of one the best people I have had the great pleasure of knowing and loving. RIP Brother

Our family moved to Raleigh in 1982 across the street from Robbie my kids  Joe and Pete became friends and although I was not used to southerners Robbie was the most respectful person with that southern drawl. He was always very polite to me and even after I moved would stop by to see him . He did like the outdoors and was a hard working man .Rest in peace .

When Robbie and I were little we used to get into all kinds of trouble. One day Robbie and I thought it would be a good idea to throw rocks at the neighbor's brand new truck (Hermie Lee Dillard). We busted out all the windows and got our butts beat. There was a lot of things we got in trouble doing but that is the one that stuck with me the most. I love you brother and will always miss you.

Growing up in Springdale was so Awesome, definitely the best part of that was knowing Robbie. He was the Coolest, Kindest most Generous guy I ever met and for sure the Toughest. I saw him wipeout on a 3 wheeler, he got back up, flipped it over, brushed himself off and rode away. I accidentally shot him with a pellet gun the pellet went through his finger. I was like “Oh S#*t I just shot Robbie!” He looked at me, wiped his bloody finger on his jeans and said” We’re good’”
Its been awesome reconnecting with Robbie over the past few years! He showed me the scar, had a laugh, knew we were still good:) He will always be remembered, he was loved by so many. I send my deepest condolences to his family. He was an awesome Dad and Friend!

Robby played with my younger siblings when we were kids.  I remember he always had a smile on his face and he possessed a positive energy.  My prayers go out to his family, and I hope you find comfort in knowing that Robby was loved by many.

Robbie and his family are leesville/Springdale mainstays.  I remember him and jimmy boykin hanging, the bonfires, the good time loving air about him.   As a man, he had become an incredible father, neighbor, and community business owner.  As his neighbor and a fellow leesville business owner, I can say I witnessed a true high character guy many times who put community and family before all else.  Rest In Peace and we are praying for your family.  

Tyler and Emily, Wade and I were so sorry to hear about your Dad. Our son Curt Davenport thought a lot of your Dad and they were good friends for a lot of years. Our thoughts and prayers are with you,  your Aunt and her family and his friends.

To my brother that I will love forever when we were kids we thought we were cowboys with ponies and horses Robbie was probably 6 or 7 years old I was probably 10 he had got a new cowboy hat so my dad and I come to visit his dad and him we got the ponies out and went for a ride his Little pony's name was Pepsi well Pepsi decided he did not want to ride that day so he throwed Robbie and tore his shirt and mashed his cowboy hat so when I got to Robbie he was getting off the ground and I won't never forget what he said he said I don't want to be a cowboy no more today maybe tomorrow that has always stuck with me my whole life just the way he said it to me was very funny to me as a kid so I tried to ride him and he did the same thing to me so we dusted ourselves off and walked back to the house my dad and his dad talked us into getting back on him and we rode some more that day two days before the accident Robbie sent me a picture of Pepsi and him he had found the other day he said we will never forget where we come from one day I will see you again my friend I love you Mike Walker


I met Robbie back in Highschool and he and several of my other friends use to enjoy coming over to my house for swimming and shenanigans we use to do. I have a great deal of memories of Robbie and I together with our friends. We stayed in close contact with one another  as we became young adults and then parents ourselves. Robbie would always try his best to be a good friend and was kind enough to do tree work in several of our families homes at a better than average price because of his kind nature.  Robbie will be sorely missed and I wish nothing but great things for his children in the future. He loved them so. RIP my friend.

Since I cannot travel to NC for the services I figured I could at least share a 37 year old video which includes several scenes of Robbie.   I took some time to re-edit an old VHS video from 1985.  It was one of many Springdale football games that included Robbie and many of his friends.  He’s easy to spot with the blonde hair and the green t-shirt.

I can’t recall a time that I did not know Robbie.  I first met him in the mid to late 70’s around 8 or 9 years old and always thought he was the toughest kid I’d ever met.  

We played soccer together and he was one of the smallest players on the field, but, without a doubt, he had the biggest heart.  My father always commented “son, that Shuffler boy is a competitor…take notes” 

He’s someone I will never forget.

I haven't seen Robbie in several years now, but I still think about him and the times we had. Robbie was one of my closest friends back in the day. I have lots of great memories of those days and will always remember him and the impact he had on my life. He was a great friend. 

I met Robby when I was 13 years old and he was a huge part of my childhood. I can honestly say he was my best friend and a hero of mine.  He was a tremendous boxer, a very fast football player, he loved all sports, a very  good marksmen and deer hunter, I have multiple childhood memories that I would like to share a  couple like the time he took his cattle shocker and stirred up some pigs until they were upset beyond belief. Then we both jumped in the pen on a dare, he jumped out first only to use the cattle prod on me for a laugh. We used to stir up the bull by throwing pecans at him until the bull chased us up a tree. As a young adult I was waiting in line with him for the bathroom when a fight broke out. He swiftly knocked a much larger  gentleman to the floor that had pulled a knife out for whatever reason. Robby quickly grabbed the knife and asked the man on the floor what he was going to do now?  Robby’s first tree job ever was at my dads house in which we both dropped a tree and it fell the wrong way and landed on my dads house.  He always credited my father as giving him his first chance at tree work. I visited him later in life and boy did he ever excel in a very difficult career.  I truly am going to miss him, and I know he is up there somewhere with (Spoke) laughing about old times. My entire Thomas family truly loved Robby he will be sorely missed. 

We lived down the street from Robbie & his family.  Our son Jimmy Boykin & Robbie were good friends.  When they were 10 & 11 years old they met in the woods one day to fight behind our house & from that day forward they were friends.   After they grew up our son moved away & Robbie stayed put.  I saw Robbie around some time & he was always of friendly & polite.  So sorry to hear about your loss.  

I met Robbie when his son Tyler was in my class in Kindergarten at Leesville. He was such a funny person and involved with his children. I later had Emily so I was able to really get to know the family well. Plus they lived right on the edge of the Leesville schools so I would pass the Shuffler home and think of them all daily. Robbie was kind and had a good heart. He once came to my house to cut down some trees and he brought us a bird house he made, which we will still hand in our yard. Then he carved my daughter a little table and chairs out of one of the tree trunks. Karson loved playing with that little set for years and years. I often think of him when I look at it. Rest in peace Robbie. You will be missed. 

Robby and I traveled down to Sunset beach to hangout with Shannon Livingston and Kim Gholson back in 1986.  Great weekend with Robby and the girls, we all ended up driving up to Atlantic Beach for the sandbar party.  We attempted to all swim to shore on a styrofoam cooler🤦🏻‍♂️....

There are many stories to tell, and many adjectives to describe Robby.if you were lucky enough to be his friend, you had a friend for life. Me and my brother met and became friends with Robby in 1982. He was always a friend and always polite to my parents.Life is precious and short. Rest In Peace , Robby- see you on the other side..

Robbie was the toughest and kindest little kid I knew during our early years living in Springdale.  He was a fierce competitor on one of the earliest soccer teams with Tal and others in the area,  he always said “yes mam” or “no mam” and he grew up to be a thoughtful and kind young man.  He cut down trees  for us and I remember a particular time when he delivered firewood one day after a rather heavy snow and without a word from us,  a few minutes later he was back with a bobcat clearing our driveway.  I haven’t seen him in years and I am so sorry for that, he always had a smile when I did see him.  Rest In Peace, Robbie, I know you will be missed.....  

Robbie is considered as one of the Good Guys. I always enjoyed talking to him. We did have a command bond with motorcycles. I would stop by his house after work sometimes just to say hello, and our conversations would pick up where we left of the last time. He will definitely be missed by me. I know he made it to Heaven. I moved to NC in early 80’s and lived behind Robby in Springdale Estates. Robby was one of the first people I met. He was a character back then with his blonde hair spiked up in the front and long in the back. My first visual of a mullet 😁. We became friends riding motorcycles on the land where Leesville HS is now. BB gun fights (shooting below the waist only). Robby cheated and would shoot you in the arms.  Football games on rock infested fields. There is one thing that you could always count on from Robby. He would literally give you the shirt off his back and do anything for you.  I stayed in touch with Robby for 40 years on and off. He will be missed. 

I am so sorry to hear about this tragic accident that took Robbie way too soon. He will always be the little boy that we grew up with and had so many fond memories of. He will be truly missed.

I rode the bus with Robby in elementary school.  He asked me to "go with him" in fourth grade but by the time I had decided to say Yes, he took back the offer!

I'm sorry for the family's loss...way too early.


Losing a childhood friend too soon is a tragedy.  It doesn't seem real. Saying goodbye doesn't seem real either, so instead, we'll say see you again old friend. You will surely be missed. Condolences to the family on your loss.
