I met Mr. Jones while working front desk at Abbotswood at Irving Park. Though I only worked part-time, he quickly became my favorite person, from the best hugs, to videos of his son flying, and my never ending supply of hand sanitizer. I left Abbotswood in June and saw Mr. Jones at the baseball game over the summer, there I got chance to introduce him to my husband..."This is the Mr. Jones I talk about all the time". My heart hurts that I had to find out about his passing this way. My condolences to the family, I'm honored to have met him.

I just came across this and am greatly saddened to learn of his passing. I met him at Chick-Fil-A a couple years ago when I used to come home from college. He was always very sweet and very kind. Attached is a Snapchat memory from that time. I’ll miss hearing from him.

I remember Roland best from the time he served Belhaven Christian Church and I was serving in Pantego, NC.  We had many a happy time eating at Mrs. Lee's Restaurant in Pantego.  (Every other elderly lady in Pantego, you called by "Miss" and  their first name, but Mrs. Lee was never, "Miss Alice," but "Mrs. Lee," and was one of the most remarkable people I've ever known, and Roland thought so too.)   Roland had a coterie of friends he hung around with in Belhaven and Pantego, almost a kind of "rat pack," so to speak, composed of all kinds of people, farmers and pastors and two local doctors, who enjoyed him and the twinkle that was often in his eye and the many laughs they had with and at him.  One of the big laughs that went around came when finally Roland was on the verge of leaving Bellhaven to serve elsewhere, and one of the doctors asked him, "Well Roland, with you leaving, what are we supposed to do?  Are you just going to let us go unhindered on to hell?"                                                   
                   That got a lot of knee slapping enjoyment.   Roland was one of a kind.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Roland. He was a classmate of my parents, Douglas and Joan McLawhorn. I will always remember the stories that my parents shared with me about their high school days together. 

Roland was a beloved friend. after my wife Elaine died in April he called me several times in May to come over from Greensboro and buy me lunch . We finally compromised on his favorite restaurant in Burlington and my youngest daughter Robin and I had a wonderful several hours with him. He preached at my sister Charlotte's funeral in 1962 so we go way back. Also my wife Elaine and his wife Phyllis really became NC State basketball buds for several years before they moved to Greensboro. Wonderful friend, wonderful family, wonderful God !!
