

Roland Howard Peoples, 85, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2010 at Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born on March 14, 1925 in Four Oaks, NC; he was the son of the late Johnny and Lula Blackman Peoples. He served honorably in the US Army during WWII as a sharp shooter and paratrooper.
Roland retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections after 25 years as a Correctional Officer. He was a member of Ebenezer Community Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his trucks, and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Mary Spikes Peoples; daughter, LeAnn Peoples Soto and her husband Luis, of Miami, FL; his granddaughters, Alexandra and Sofia Soto; sister, Melverine Barbour, of Four Oaks; half-sister, Lynda Norris, of Dunn; and by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 23, 2010 from 1-2 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue). Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
