Ruth Ann Dickinson Metheny

Ruth Ann Dickinson was born on March 28, 1937 in Midland, Texas to Henry Braswell Dickinson and Alice (Bond) Dickinson. She graduated from Midland High School and attended North Texas State University before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1957 where she worked as an office manager. Soon after, she met and married Donald Ralph Metheny and gave birth to two daughters, Tish and Midge. The family moved to Ohio in 1970, living in the towns Galion and Delaware, before settling in Raleigh, NC in 1974. She worked as an office manager for 10 years for John Held and volunteered with Hospice for many years. Ruth Ann and Ralph shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. In 1998, Ruth Ann received a life-saving liver transplant and was blessed with the gift of 18 more years of life. During her “bonus” years she was able to witness the birth and share in the raising of her grandson Alex, who was the love of her life. Family was so important to Ruth Ann and she was beloved as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She had a wonderful sense of humor and possessed the gift of making friends with everyone she met. Hers was truly a life well lived.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, David Dickinson and Daniel Dickinson and sister, Sara Dennett.

Ruth Ann is survived by her husband, Ralph Metheny; daughters, Tish Metheny (Hyoung Woo Lee), Midge Metheny (John Culbreth); grandson Alex Sahng-Hwa Lee; siblings, Mary Jess Baze, Sue Apodaca, Martha Alexander (Ken Alexander), Mark Dickinson ( Jo Ann Dickinson), Liz de Bessonet ( John de Bessonet) and sisters-in-law Inez Dickinson, Lois Dickinson and Seung Hee Dickinson; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Services will be held at 3pm on February 24th at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7501 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC with burial immediately following at Raleigh Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 1:30pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the UNC School of Medicine, Division of Transplant Services or to FIGS of Wake County.
