Ruth Jenkins Harwood

Ruth Harwood was born June 19, 1930 in Cabarrus County, NC to Joseph E. Jenkins and Adele Barbee Jenkins. She died at Rex Hospital on June 15, 2016. Ruth was educated at Stanfield High School and Catawba College. She and D.G. Harwood, Jr. were married 65 years.

She is survived by 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Surviving children include Sheron (Harold) Megredy of Cary, Lynn (Dr.George) Edwards, Jr. of Raleigh, Donna (Greg) Mulholland of Winston Salem, Kim (Dr.Bill) Downs of Greenville, NC, and Craig Harwood of Greenville, SC.

Ruth was a devoted mother and grandmother, who enjoyed family celebrations, cooking, gardening, sewing, and playing bridge.

She expressed her strong Christian faith in every aspect of daily living, trusting God with all things big and small. She was a children's Sunday School teacher, member of Bible Study fellowship, and active member of Highland United Methodist Church, as long as her health allowed. In their later years, D.G. and Ruth enjoyed life at Springmoor Lifecare Retirement Community.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., Springmoor Lifecare Retirement Community, 1500 Sawmill Rd., Raleigh. A private burial will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Springmoor Endowment Fund, 1500 Sawmill Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615.
