
Ruth Stevens died Dec.5th, 2013 at Sanford Health and Rehab in Sanford, N.C. after years of declining health. Ruth was born in Macon, Georgia and graduated from Miller High School. She worked as a local telephone operator before moving to Charlotte, N.C. where she met and married her husband Everett D. Stevens. In 1947, following the war, Ruth and Everett moved to Raleigh and lived in Vetville on the NC State campus where Everett served as Mayor of Vetville. After her husband’s death in 1969, Ruth went to work at Wachovia Bank in North Hills. Later from 1972 until 1982, Ruth worked as the Assistant to the Education Secretary at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. From 1982 until 1998 she worked at the N. C. State Poultry Science Department. Ruth was an avid golfer, reader and also enjoyed needlework and embroidery. She finished her business career working as a Secretary for HBUMC. She is predeceased by her husband Everett Stevens and her son Terry Stevens. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Stevens Zwerin (Gary) of Sanford, NC and her daughter in law Sue Stevens of Mt. Ulla, NC and brother Mack Jones of Charlotte, NC.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Stevens life will be held 2PM Wednesday December 11, 2013 at Hayes Barton UMC, in Raleigh
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Hayes Barton United Methodist Church or the Bryan Alzheimers Disease Research Center.
