Ruthe Reilly Harrill
October 3, 1926 – October 28, 2018
Ruthe Harrill peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 28th, 2018. Born on October 3rd, 1926 in Gary, Indiana, she lost her mother Grace Stevens Hoffmeister at age 16 and was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Herman Hoffmeister. Her 92 years on earth were filled with meaningful and deep relationships. She will be remembered most for her kindness; she loved her Lord and showed it daily.
She is preceded in death by her mother, stepfather, sister, Patricia Ann Tarsitano, loving husband, Spencer Leggett Harrill and her beloved cat, Lily. She is survived by her two children, Becki Gray and Phil Keb, and her daughter in law, Kelli; five adoring grandchildren and five adorable great grandchildren, all of whom brought her great pride and joy. She leaves three nieces and a nephew. In a few weeks the family she built will gather at Lake Lure, her favorite place on earth, to celebrate her life.
She traveled the world, marveled at art, loved music, read great books, listened compassionately, and loved deeply and humbly. She most admired good thinkers and hard workers. She was both.
She was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Women’s Club of Raleigh.
Ruthe’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Wells Edmundson and the staff at Springmoor Stewart Health Center for their love and care. Special thanks to Phyllis Mayo and David Sloop for providing our mother spiritual guidance and friendship for many years.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 2, 2018 in the auditorium at Springmoor Retirement Community at 11:00 am. Ruthe’s family will receive friends immediately following the service at Springmoor.
