Ruthie Monson Goold

Ruth Elaine Monson Goold passed away on May 14, 2023 at Magnolia Glen in Raleigh, NC. She was 86 years old. She is survived by her two children, Mary Wood, of Raleigh and Kenneth Goold III, of Mebane, and by two grandchildren, Caroline Wood, of Wrightsville Beach and Clayton Wood, of Raleigh.

Ruthie was born on August 3, 1936 in Duluth, MN and was the daughter of Nels Alfred Monson and Elsie Zimmerman Monson. She grew up in Duluth where she graduated from Denfeld High School. After graduation she moved to San Francisco, where she met and married her husband of 60 years, Kenneth C. Goold, Jr. who was a career US Air Force pilot. She was a devoted mother and air force wife, making a home for her family anywhere they were stationed.

After Ken’s retirement they settled in North Carolina, first in Broadway and later in Carolina Lakes. In addition to being a devoted mother, she was a loving and cherished grandmother. Her effervescent personality made her one of the kids, always inspiring creative and fun activities. Ruthie and Ken enjoyed road tripping across the country picking up souvenirs for the grandkids along the way. For many years Ken and Ruthie enjoyed living part-time at the beach at Fort Fisher, near Wilmington, NC.

Ruthie was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Additionally, the family would like to thank Nunu and Eve and other caregivers for their care and devotion to our beloved mother and grandmother.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 4:00 pm in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, with a Reception to follow.
