Sally was the daughter of the late Clifford Montague Burbank and Blanche Anne Bellingham. She met Ray Mathews while working at GE, and they were married in 1959. They reared three children in Austin Texas. While her children were in school, she attended St Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. Ray and Sally lived on Lake Norman for many years and then retired to Raleigh, NC.
She loved to work in the yard, the greenhouse and the garden. She had a strong faith and was beloved by her Eckenkar community and congregation. She loved to walk in the neighborhood and was most happy greeting and conversing with neighbors and loved their dogs and knew all of them by name. She was utterly selfless, completely generous and kind beyond measure. She was a constant and faithful companion to her husband Ray.
She is survived by her husband Raymond Dennis Mathews and her three children; Lisa Lynn Mathews, Dawn Kimberly Mathews and Craig Forrest Mathews.
This is how Sally wanted to be remembered: “She loved her family and friends and had a full and happy life - no regrets”
In honoring her wishes, there will be no service.
