Sandy Fisher, 68, beloved wife of Phillip Fisher, passed away December 2nd in Raleigh following a courageous six year battle with Stage 4 cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry Leon and Lorena K. Williams.
As a child growing up in Kannapolis, NC, Sandy was the proverbial "Tomboy", standing on a stool in her father's workshop handing him tools and idolizing her two older brothers. While still in high school, she began her working career as a teller at a local bank where, several years later, she met "the love of her life", Phil, at her drive-in window. A year later, they began their wonderful 47-year marriage, which, in 1975, took them to Raleigh. There, after her first job interview, she was employed as a Legal Assistant at the Tharrington, Smith & Hargrove Law Firm where, after 35 years, she retired as the firm's senior staff member.
Sandy will be remembered by her friends and co-workers at Tharrington, Smith for her tireless energy, vibrant personality, the communal candy dish on her desk, and her daily brisk walks down Fayetteville Street Mall to the courthouse in her trademark high heel shoes. She will be remembered by her many friends as a caring and thoughtful person of great style and beauty both inside and out. She will be remembered by the hundreds of guests entertained at their home and at socials across the state and country as a gracious hostess who, like her parties, epitomized glitz and glamour. She will be remembered by the neighborhood "trick-or-treaters" and their parents as the friendly witch whose festive seasonal decorations earned their home the title "The Holiday House". She will be remembered by her family as the loving little sister and "neat" Aunt. And by her loving husband as the little girl still standing on the stool who thankfully never grew up.
She is survived by her husband, Phil, brothers Steven L. Williams and Charles R. Williams (and wife Christine), nephews Steven L. Williams, Jr. (and wife Mary) and Thomas L. Williams, and niece Jennifer L. Williams.
The family wishes to thank those many healthcare professionals who aided her in her long struggle, especially Dr. Robert Smithson and the compassionate Transitions LifeCare team.
A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 4900 Kaplan Drive in Raleigh. Following the service, friends may visit with the family at the church's Fellowship Hall. A private internment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607, or to the SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603.
Arrangements by Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh.
