Shuqiong Li

Shuqiong Li of Durham, NC passed away on February 14th, 2024 at the age of 87. Born on September 5th, 1936, in Beijing, China, she spent her formative years as the second child among eight siblings. Assuming the role of primary caregiver for her six younger brothers, she embraced responsibility until her marriage in 1957.

Shuqiong was deeply involved in motherhood and her community. She enjoyed social dancing and music. She is preceded in death by her second daughter Li Ping Yang and first grandson Xiao Yu Yang, but is survived by her daughter, Lina Yang, granddaughter Monica Yang, Grandson In Law Duy-Tan Ngo and grandson Kevin Li.

At the age of 52, she assumed the sole caretaking duties for her 18-month-old granddaughter, Monica, making it possible for her daughter Lina to pursue her American Dream.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, doctors, and nurses at Duke Hospital, as well as friends who came to share the good news with her, bringing their love and compassion during her final days.

Family and friends were invited to attend a Memorial Service at Duke University Chapel on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024.
