

Steve Nicholas Poniros, 87, of Raleigh passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017, surrounded by his devoted family. Steve was born in Chios, Greece and came to the U.S.A. in 1949. He married Freeda Charles and settled in Raleigh in 1953. Steve worked for many years as a building contractor and owned and operated "Steve's Dog House" at the N.C. State Fair for 59 years. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and was a lifelong member of the AHEPA organization.
He was preceded in death by 7 siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Freeda C. Poniros; his two beloved children, son George S. Poniros and his wife Kathy of Cary, and daughter Risa Poniros of Raleigh; granddaughter, Araina Poniros; great-grandson, Lacey James Poniros; brother, Michael Poniros of Greece; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 6-8pm, with Trisagion Prayers beginning at 6:30pm, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity. Burial will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
