

Dr. Myers passed away on April 16, 2016. He was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, having been the first child of John Simeon Myers, MD and LaVonne Lucille (White) Myers. His grandfather, Wilson Alexander Myers, MD was also a physician. Steven lived in Prairie Village, Kansas, attending Highlands School, Indian Hills Junior High School and Shawnee Mission East High School. Following graduation, he attended William Jewell College, in Liberty, Missouri for one semester. He then volunteered for the United States Air Force. During this time, he was stationed in Texas, Washington State and Germany. While in Germany, he met and married his wife, Waltraud “Val” Mueller. They have been in a warm and loving marriage for 50 years at the time of his death.
Following honorable discharge from the military, he attended Metropolitan Junior College in Kansas City, Missouri, followed by attendance at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree. He then was accepted by the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine, graduating with his MD degree in 1975. He then obtained his Board Certification in Family Medicine, after receiving his residency training at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown, Pennsylvania in 1978. Dr. Myers then moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and shortly thereafter opened a solo practice in the practice of Family Medicine in Lenox, Massachusetts. At this time, Dr. Myers also was an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine through the University of Massachusetts Medical School, also acting as a preceptor for medical students and chairing the Cancer Committee and the Department of Family Medicine. During this time, he became affiliated with Berkshire Physicians and Surgeons.
In 2002, Dr. Myers moved to the Raleigh, North Carolina area with his wife, in order to be closer to their daughter, Alexandra “Sandy” Elisabeth (Myers) Brown who was born in 1965. Her husband is Richard “Rick” Burgess Brown. Their three children are Richard Alexander “Alex” Burgess Brown, Addison Walker Brown and Atley Grace Brown. Dr. and Mrs. Myers’ son is Karl John Myers, with his wife Melissa (Smith) and daughter Victoria Smith.
Dr. Myers practiced in a variety of Urgent Care settings while in Raleigh, culminating with PromptMed Urgent care, and retired in 2012. Dr. Myers leaves two brothers, Peter Hall Myers and his wife Karen, and John Andrew Myers and wife Susan and nephew Alex, and a sister, Mary Jane Myers Dowlatkhah and her husband Esmail.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2016 at 11 am at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 11412 Strickland Road, Raleigh, NC 27613. Family will receive friends at their home following the service.
