

Master Trooper Steven James Perry, 30, gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on March 1, 2026. Steven was born on February 12, 1996, in Durham, North Carolina, to Cheryl Hamilton Perry and the late James Eric Perry.
Steven attended Durham Public Schools and graduated from Riverside High School before continuing his education at North Carolina Central University, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice in 2018. While at NCCU, Steven was a proud member of the Eagles Football Team, lettering as an offensive lineman from 2014–2017. He was also a devoted brother of the mighty Tau Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Following graduation, Steven joined the North Carolina State Highway Patrol as a member of the 148th Basic Patrol School. For nearly seven years he served the citizens of Durham County with dedication and honor, attaining the rank of Master Trooper. His commitment to protecting others reflected the deep sense of duty that guided his life.
Steven was known for his sharp wit, warm smile, and the ability to lift the spirits of those around him. Whether at work or in the community, he brought energy, positivity, and purpose to every space he entered. He owned and operated a powerlifting gym where he trained and mentored young men, encouraging them to develop strength, discipline, and confidence. Steven was also proud of the landscaping business he built, an example of his entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic.
Outside of work, Steven loved the outdoors. Some of his most peaceful moments were spent fishing, enjoying the quiet beauty of the water and the simple joy of being present in nature.
Above all else, Steven was a proud and devoted father to his daughter, Sasha Joy Perry. She was the center of his world and raising her with his girlfriend, Hunter Hardin was the role he cherished most. Steven loved Sasha deeply and often spoke about the bright future they dreamed for her. He also shared an exceptionally close bond with his mother, Cheryl Perry, whose love, guidance, and support were a constant foundation in his life. Their relationship was one of fierce devotion.
Steven’s memory is cherished by his mother, Cheryl Perry; his beloved daughter, Sasha; his girlfriend, Hunter Hardin; his grandmother, Lee Hamilton; his uncle, Steven Hamilton and wife Kathleen, and their children, Alexander, Eric Steven, and Kendall; his uncle, John Hamilton and wife Macy, and their children, John, Justus, Jesse, and Jett; his aunt, Brenda Bennett and her children; his cousin, Phaedra Richardson and her daughter; his brothers and sisters of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol; his NCCU Football family; and his brothers of Omega Psi Phi.
Master Trooper Perry will be remembered for his courage, strength, and unwavering commitment to serving others. His legacy lives on in the lives he protected, the people he mentored, the family he loved, and the community he served.
A visitation for Steven was held at The Shepherd's Church, 6051 Tryon Road, Cary, from 9:00am - 11:00am. The Funeral Service followed at 12:00 pm. A Private Burial will be held following the service.
