Susan was a special friend and beloved neighbor growing up in Raleigh from the time when I was a young child. She and my sister became great lifelong friends. Although she was quite a bit older, she was part of the neighborhood gang and we spent many summer days as children going to the neighborhood swimming pool or evenings with refreshing cool lemonade having marathon Monopoly sessions. We seemed to rotate around the neighborhood playing in the yards of friends where every parent knew even chiId on the block. I remember going to the movies with Susan and my sister and brother in downtown Raleigh across from the old post office to see a movie where her father was the film projectionist. I admire Susan for her lifelong grit and determination because throughout her life she was challenged with a life long health condition. She was valiant and persistent. As an adult she worked for many years at the processing center at Wachovia bank on Old Wake Forest Road. She took great pride in her job and always strived to be attentive, exact and precise. She was a beloved only child and it is with great sadness that I learned that she will no longer be physically present with us on Sunday. May the light of her life be held gently in our hearts as we honor her journey with us.
