Susanne Kathleen Slock passed away at UNC Memorial Hospital at Chapel Hill, NC following a long pulmonary illness. Born in Moline, IL in 1965 to Michael and Patricia Slock, she was a North Carolina resident from the age of three. She was a resident of Charlotte, Rocky Mount and Raleigh, NC during her upbringing. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1988 and remained an avid Tar Heel basketball fan for life.
Susanne was an employee of American Airlines until 2017, retiring for health reasons. She had many dear friends there whom she stayed in touch with throughout her life. The same is true of her dear UNC college friends. She was fun-loving with a sharp sense of humor and a super sharp game player with her nieces and nephews, loving any kind of game with them. She loved dogs and her two horses, Sherman Tank and Tuffy, on whom she garnered many ribbons and trophies in Saddleseat competitions. She loved swimming and tennis in school days.
The beach at Fripp Island, SC was her favorite place, vacationing there for summer and many holidays her entire life. She loved travel and visited many places in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean while in good health with friends or family.
Her family was everything to her. She planned Scavenger hunts with her dad for the entire family at Fripp and backyard Olympics for her nieces and nephews with many events and medal ceremonies. She was generous to a fault, spoiling her family and enjoying every minute of it.
Her grandparents Herbert and Catherine Elmore of Chicago, IL and Edward and Margaret Slock of Moline, IL preceded her in death as well as her beloved aunt Mary Elmore of Beaufort, SC and uncle Robert Elmore of Las Vegas, NV. She is survived by her parents; by her loving sister Peggy Sherk and husband David Sherk of Rocky Mount, NC; her loving brother Michael Slock and wife Casey Moore Slock of Raleigh, NC; and her much loved brother David Slock of Wake Forest, NC. Her nieces and nephews were the center of her world: Lindsey, Erin, Ryan and Kyle Sherk and Michael (Gus), Anna and Bridgette Slock. She was a favorite aunt to her much loved nieces and nephews.
A private family chapel service to be held on Monday, June 22, 2020.
