

Sybil Pearce Barnes, 92, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2012 at Universal Health Care in Ramseur, NC. She was born on September 15, 1919, daughter of William Henry Simon Pearce and Etta Daisy Richards
After graduating from high school, Sybil attended Hardbarger’s Business School. Her secretarial career included a post in Governor Dan K. Moore’s office, personal secretary to NC State Supreme Court Justice, J. Will Pless and various administrative positions at the State Legislature. She was also private secretary to Charles Dunn, director of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). She was also a longtime member of Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Riley Barnes; sisters, Linnora Pearce, Henrietta Bobbitt, Estelle Hopkins and Vivian Privette; brothers, Eugene and Freddie Pearce.
She is lovingly remembered by daughter, Rita Edwards and husband Bruce, of Asheboro and her son, James Barnes, Jr. of Raleigh; grandchildren, Brad Wilkinson and wife Amy, and Wendy Falkowski and husband Rob, and dear great grandson Cooper Wilkinson.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday February 1, at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. Following the service, the family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home, beside the cemetery.
