Thomas “Pete” Winn III, 58, passed away on March 7 after having had a heart attack on March 2nd. Born on in Carmi, Illinois; he was the son of Norma Coleen Laswell Winn and Thomas Winn, Jr. Pete grew up in Illinois, and graduated from Ripon College in Wisconsin.
He retired to North Carolina in 2013 after 30 years as a journalist. He worked, most notably, 18 years at Focus on the Family (in California and Colorado Springs), and over 7 years at CNSNews.com in Alexandria, VA. He loved music of all kinds and volunteered as an announcer at WCPE classical radio station in Wake Forest. He was an avid reader and a deep thinker. He loved Jesus with all his heart and loved God's people.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife: Margaret Lankford Winn, his brother Conrad Winn, his church family and many, many dear friends all over the country.
Pete would have confidently agreed with the following words from D. L. Moody:
"Some day you will read in the papers,
'D. L. Moody of East Northfield is dead.'
Don't you believe a word of it!
At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now;
I shall have gone up higher, that is all,
out of this old clay tenement into a house that is immortal --
a body that death cannot touch, that sin cannot taint;
a body fashioned like unto His glorious body.
I was born of the flesh in 1837.
I was born of the Spirit in 1856.
That which is born of the flesh may die.
That which is born of the Spirit will live forever."
- Dwight Lyman Moody (1837-1899)
