Thomas B. Sanders, Jr., 88, passed away at home Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Born September 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Thomas B. and Lula Mae (Hamilton) Sanders, Sr. A life-long resident of Raleigh, N.C., Tom attended Needham B. Broughton High School and afterwards served in the US. Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon returning to Raleigh, he worked with W.H. King Drug Co. 43 years, retiring in 1988.
Recently he celebrated 40 years of marriage to his wife, Joyce P. Sanders. Tom worked many years as a Shriner in the Amran Temple of Raleigh, North Carolina, being elected Potentate in 1989. He was an avid hunter and member of the Brinkleyville Hunt Club. After an injury sustained in 1997, Tom participated in, and was an active member of the Wake Med Rehab System for nearly 14 years.
In addition to his wife, Joyce, surviving is his son, Gary Douglas Sanders of Raleigh and daughter, Gayle Katherine Sanders of Raleigh and Bald Head Island, N.C., brother-in law, Marvin (Chuck) Charles Post and his wife Joan along with nieces and nephews from the Post family all residing in Milwaukee, WI. Other surviving family members include Geraldine Richardson, Charlotte, N.C. and her sons Bill, Jim and Mike Richardson and their families.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10:00am followed by the funeral at 11:00am at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, N.C.
