Thomas E. “Tommy” Wood, 71, of Raleigh was called to his eternal home on Saturday September 17, 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Edison and Virginia Wood. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Connie, his daughter Jessica Wood, his sister Bruce Mizelle, a host of friends and extended family.
In 1963, Tommy graduated Wakelon HS in Zebulon. He then served his country in the US Army; he was stationed in Italy and served in Vietnam. Following his time in the military, he attended Campbell University. After graduating from Campbell, Tommy started a manufacturing business, Capital Marble Creations. He owned and operated this business in Harnett County from 1973-2005. In retirement, Tommy and Connie split their time between N. Myrtle Beach, SC and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Tommy was very involved in both communities through church doing a great deal of outreach in the community. In addition to his commitment to the Lord, Tommy found passion and inspiration through art. He was a talented artist whose work hangs in the homes of family, friends and strangers alike. His thirst for knowledge and ability to do anything was uncanny! During his life he excelled at many things. He attacked every endeavor with unparalleled dedication from business to learning to fly airplanes to shagging to cooking to sailing to painting; a true Renaissance man! In 2014, Tommy and Connie began to spend more time in Raleigh to be close to family and friends. They are members of Capital Community Church. As an active member of both the Friday Morning Men’s Bible Study and the Finding Purpose Bible Study, he continued to dedicate his time and energy to others through outreach to homeless men in downtown Raleigh.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday September 21, 2016 at Church of the Apostles located at 333 Church at N. Hills Street in Raleigh.
