Willis (Bill) Benjamin Horton Jr.

Willis (Bill) Benjamin Horton, Jr., 93, joined his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 1, 2016. He was born in Raleigh on March 23, 1922 to the late Willis B. Horton and Vivian Williams Horton. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and very recently by his beloved son-in-law, David McLeod Lewis.

Bill is survived by his former wife, Pauline Young Horton, their daughter, Candice “Candy” Horton Lewis; granddaughter, Catherine Lewis Walsh (Jason) of Fuquay; grandson, Cameron Murry Lewis (Katie) and great grandchildren Cameron, Daniel and Lydia of Asheville, who affectionately knew him as “Bill Bill.”

Bill graduated from Hugh Morson High School and for many years met for a monthly lunch with Morson friends at Person Street Pharmacy. He enjoyed being a part of the “Old Raleigh Boys.” Bill worked for Brandt Processing, traveling throughout North and South Carolina for 34 years. A member of the Carolina Country Club, Bill loved playing golf and cards with his buddies and was well- known for his prowess in “gin rummy”. Bill loved the Lord and loved people; he never knew a stranger. He also loved animals, having a special fondness for dogs.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 6, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608 with visitation to follow in the Jane Bell Gathering Space. A family-only service at Montlawn Memorial Park will precede the memorial service.

The family would like to thank Joyce Brunner and Angie Bouchard for their longterm friendship and care of Bill; special friends, Annie Lee Hansen and Lynn Womble; and most recently, the caring staff at Mayview and caring helpers from Transitions LifeCare and Aware Care.
