On Saturday, Woodie “Pe-Paw” passed peacefully amongst his family. He departed this world to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, while maintaining his love and compassion for his family. Pe-paw was strong and endured much during his life.
Woodie is survived by his son David; his grandson Benjamin and his wife Alexandra, and their daughter Eve; brother-in-law Marvin Jackson, and sister Anna Jane Ozzello. He is preceded in death by his wife Rebecca Jackson Warrick; and his two brothers, Jack and Guy Warrick; and daughter-in-law Dana Payne Warrick.
Woodie grew up outside of Raleigh. He attended Hugh-Morrison high school. Once graduated, he married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca (Becky). He served in the Army, reaching the rank of Sergeant, during the Korean War. Once he returned, he attended N.C. State University and obtained a B.S in Civil Engineering. Woodie worked a long career for the NCDOT as a Highway Engineer in various divisions. He retired with 30 years of service at age 55.
Woodie was very active in David’s life thru coaching his sports teams. After retirement, Woodie loved to travel to Atlantic Beach. He also loved to shoot fire arms and smoke cigars. He spent much of his retirement being a major part of his grandson’s life. Pe-paw, as most would say, was very caring. He protected and stood up for his family- that was his ultimate goal, no matter what.
A graveside burial will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park on Thursday, January 17th, at 1pm. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations made via mail at NC State Engineering Foundation, NCSU, Campus Box 7901, Raleigh NC 27695, (in memo line state “in memory of Woodie Warrick”).
