He was born December 12, 1928, in Moore, West Virginia, to parents Frank and Effie (Varner) Harper. Alfred proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the US Army. He retired from Harbison-Walker in Windham as a panel board operator.
Mr. Harper enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, hunting, and cutting wood. He also loved to go on road trips, many of which took him back to his hometown in West Virginia. Alfred was well known for his storytelling and his love for his family.
He is survived by his children: Mary (Lee) Jefferys of Ravenna, Danny (Lora) Harper of Brimfield, Mike Harper, Matt (Kristy) Harper, and Connie (Sam) Harper all of Ravenna. Alfred is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Pat (Jen), John (Renee), and Lisa (Luke) Jefferys, Ashley (Tim) Bohl and Danielle Harper, William and Sebastian Harper, Robert (Nicholas) Jones, Matthew, Kody and Olivia Harper, and Mark and Dylan Click, as well as his great-grandchildren: Andrea Jefferys and Stephanie Moore. Also surviving are his brothers John (Ruth), June, and Billy Harper, and sister Beauty Meyers.
Alfred was preceded in death by his beloved wife Beatrice Louise Harper on January 2, 1980, his son Alfred “Lee” Harper, and his great-granddaughters Alexis and Christina Jefferys.
Friends and family will be received Monday, October 15, 2018, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a funeral service officiated by Reverend Jim Lovejoy on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park with military honors provided by the US Navy and VFW Post 1055 honor guard.
