

He was born July 8, 1927, in Shalersville, Ohio, to parents Nellie (Gamble) and Charles Heritage Sr. Austin proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy in WWII and as a paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean War. He was an active member of St. Joseph Parish in Mantua, and Knights of Columbus 3766, where he attained 3rd and 4th Degree status.
He was a self-employed carpenter, who was well known for his craftsmanship. Austin built several homes throughout the area, including the parsonage at St. Joseph Church. He was a fair and honest gentleman, who was also a perfect husband.
On November 13, 1954, Austin married the love of his life, Bernice (Rothermel), who survives him. He is also survived by his children: Diane (Marshall) Mullins, Mark (Lori) Heritage, and Camille (Ken) Tillman, grandchildren: Amanda Mullins, April (Brett) Collins, Sarah Mullins, Brandon (Lauren) Heritage, Katie Heritage, Alex Heritage, Elliot Tillman and Natalie Tillman, as well as his great-grandsons Jack and Sam Heritage.
Austin was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Arlene Caslow, Wanda Todd, Lois Bell, James Heritage, Charles Heritage, Margaret Hanni, Doris Terrill, Frances Patchin, and Hilda Cornes.
Friends will be received Monday, January 4, 2016, from 4:30 – 6:00 PM at St. Joseph Church, 11045 St. Joseph Blvd., Mantua, OH 44255, with Reverend Edward Stafford celebrating the Mass of Christian burial following at 6:00 PM. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Randolph.
