Barbara K. Welch

July 5, 1925May 13, 2020

Barbara K. Welch, 94, passed away on May 13, 2020 at Vista Veranda in Ravenna where she had been a resident.

Born on July 5, 1925, in Mineral Ridge, Ohio, the daughter of Harmon and Lucile (Sparks) King. Barbara was a retired teacher and counselor. She began her career in Kirtland for one year then went on to the Crestwood school system and subsequently retired from Aurora schools. Barbara had always been a very energetic and active woman. She enjoyed playing tennis, swimming and golfing and loved antiquing. Barbara also enjoyed time spent with her late husband attending Model “A” club activities throughout eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. According to her family, she “hated ants and killed them with glee”!

Barbara is survived by her sons Bill (Rita) Welch, Todd (Pat) Welch and Rollie (Lauren) Welch. She also leaves her grandchildren Andrew (Janice) Welch, Allison (David) Adams; her sister Beverly (Ray) Zimmerman and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents and her husband William Welch preceded Barbara in death.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and due to the Corona Virus, a Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date. In her memory, everyone should remain active and enjoy the outdoors. Her family truly believes by doing this she was able to live a happy, prosperous and long life to the age of 94.

Barbara’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to all of the nurses and aids at Vista Veranda for their wonderful care and compassion given to Barbara.

I had the pleasure of meeting Todd's parents many years ago. Both were wonderful individuals. His Mom was always so pleasurable and nice to visit with. I remember many years ago when Todd and Patty stopped at my house with her. They all had their swimming outfits on and enjoyed the day at West Branch beach! She had that adventuresome spirit and loved activities. Peanuts, her "Choweeny" (Todd's designation!) doggie hit the lottery with the Welch family! Awesome lady and family. Bless you all. I worked with Barb at Aurora High School for many years and had her son Rollie in English class . Her presence was always very warm and memorable. As young teacher and especially at at time when young teachers needed strong role models, I greatly valued and respected her strength and decisiveness. She was forever a hard and dedicated worker. I admired her wit and strong perseverance.

Barbara was a gift to education. We first knew her when we were at Crestwood and were delighted to see her again at Aurora years later. She was an inspiration and model to me as I began my career as a counselor. Barbara's warmth and quick wit were special. We send our sympathy to all who loved her.

Please accept our condolences related to the passing of Barbara. She was an excellent example for many of her students, staff, and community members. She demonstrated a keen sense of humor and a great appreciation for achievement in sports and in life. We always enjoyed meeting her in professional as well as in social occasions. We were always greeted with a wonderful smile and a humorous story or two.
We consider our selves fortunate to have known her.
