Charles was born in Salem, Ohio on October 27, 1926 to parents Albert and Alice Koontz. Mr. Koontz was retired from Philips Petroleum as a manager. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17 and served in Japan and China as part of the occupied forces after WWII. Charles was a member of the Black Horse Baptist Church where he enjoyed being active and was a Deacon. He enjoyed hunting and gun collecting. He was most proud when he saw his youngest daughter graduate from college. His family meant everything to him, especially taking care of his lovely wife for many months until his health declined.
Charles is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara (Ritchie) Koontz and his children: Patricia (Herbert) Bishop, Sherrie (Randy) Near, Charles Koontz, Jr., and Susan Molnar. He is survived also by nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers: Albert and Duane.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 15th at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Dallas Sanford officiating. Friends will also be received on Thursday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
