Charles E. Smith Sr.

He was born December 15, 1948, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, to parents Evelyn Ocie (Osborne) and Sherman Ray Smith Sr. Chuck worked for Terrex in Hudson, as well as General Motors in Pittsburgh and later retired from their Lordstown plant. He was also the former owner of Michael’s Lounge in Streetsboro.

Charles graduated as a Captain of Carlisle Military School in South Carolina, and proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He later joined VFW Post 2629 in Aurora. Chuck was also a longtime member of Stow Lodge #768 F&AM.

Charles cherished life. He was an avid corn hole player and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening, mowing his lawn, golfing, bowling, and going to casinos. Chuck’s family, especially his grandchildren, was always his priority. The 4th of July also held a special place in Charles’ life, and surprisingly the authorities were never called for his fireworks show and cookout.

Chuck is survived by his beloved wife Deborah Renee (Stone) Smith, who he married on August 19, 1978. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law Tonya Lynn and John Daley, his son Charles Edward Smith Jr., grandchildren: Johnathan, Joshua, Jacob, and Victoria Daley, and Krysta Farley, and great-grandson Caleb Farley, as well as his mother Ocie Smith and his brother and sister-in-law Sherman and Martha Smith Jr. He was preceded in death by his father Sherman Smith Sr.

Charles wishes for cremation are being honored. Friends and family will be received Saturday, February 4, 2017, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, with Stow Lodge leading a Masonic Service at 11:00 AM. A memorial service will follow with Pastor Tim Paroz officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the US Army. Private inurnment will take place on a later date at Hillside Cemetery in Mantua.
