Clarence (Fling) (Big C) Lewis Watts was called home on March 15, 2019. He was the 19th and last surviving child of Joseph and Lena Noble Watts’ 19 children. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 20, 1923.
He served in the Army during World War II where he earned a Bronze Star. He earned a music scholarship from the Wings Over Jordan Choir of which he used to attend Kent State University, where he met his wife Willie (Lippy) Lee Head. They were married at Union Baptist Church in Kent on June 18, 1948.
Clarence was a member of Union Baptist Church and served on the trustee board and as a member of the choir. He and his brother Eddie owned Watts Builders Inc. for many years. Clarence was a golfer and an avid bowler. He was inducted in the TriCounty Bowlers Association Hall of Fame in 2011. He had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing whenever he had a chance. He was a member of the Kent American Legion and served as a member of their honor guard.
Willie Lee preceded him in death. Clarence is survived by his sister in law Gladys Watts of Kent, his sister and brother in law, Hedi and Frank Head of Akron, his son Eric Sr. of Kent, his daughter Vicki Broaddus (Anthony) of Stow, and son Clayton Sr.(Henrietta) of Colton, California, his nine grandchildren, 22 great grand children and one great great grand child. He also leaves special friend Alice McCorkle.
A memorial service will be celebrated by Reverend Bill White Jr. at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Inurnment will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent with full military honors.
