Donald G. Cline

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Cline and Elizabeth Whitcomb, his stepfather, Howard Whitcomb and Stepbrother Howard (Chick) Whitcomb Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Margie Cunningham Cline; his children, Tammy (Jim) Cline Swope and John Cline; his grandchildren, Tyler Swope, Madilyn (Quintin) Cline Daniels, Molly Cline, Jacob Cline; and his great-grandchildren, Ivy Daniels and Tessa Cline. He is also survived by his stepbrother Steve Whitcomb and Bobo Cline.

Donald grew up in Shalersville, Ohio, and attended Crestwood Local School District. He enlisted in the Army at age 17 and went on to serve two years in Vietnam. He took great pride in his military service and continued supporting veterans throughout his life, including through donations to several charities, especially the Wounded Warrior Project. After returning home, Donald settled in Freedom Township, where he and his family made their home for 55 years.

Donald believed love was best shown through steady daily actions, open communication, and unwavering support for family and friends. His unexpected texts and photos of the animals visiting his “Freedom Buffet” will be deeply missed.

Donald’s faith was central to his life, and he served as a Deacon in the Worldwide Church of God. He believed in helping others whenever he could. Together with his wife, he started a cleaning service and often volunteered to clean the homes of cancer patients.

In his free time, Donald enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, and watching the animals that visited the “Freedom Buffet” outside his window. He was known for his quick wit, generous nature, and deep-rooted faith in God and country. Donald could make anyone laugh, no matter what the situation.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at University Hospital in Ravenna for the care and compassion they showed Donald and his family during this difficult time.

Friends will be received on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, Ohio 44266 from 10am until the funeral service beginning at 11am. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Rittman Ohio 44270 will be held at 1:15pm following the funeral service.

Celebration of Life Dinner at the VFW Post 500, VFW Pkwy, Kent, Ohio, 44240, will be held from 2:30pm-5:30pm.
