lived, we celebrate the legacy of Dorothy Jean Barnes-
Steptoe, who peacefully transitioned on March 27, 2026.
Born on December 29, 1943, in Montgomery, Alabama,
Dorothy’s life was a radiant example of strength, grace, and
unwavering devotion to family.
Dorothy was a woman whose presence brought warmth
into every room and whose spirit uplifted all who knew
her. She carried herself with dignity, compassion, and a
quiet resilience that defined her journey. Whether through
her nurturing care, her wisdom, or her infectious laughter,
she created a lasting impact that will continue to echo
through generations.
Dorothy’s life was one of purpose, faith, and deep familial
bonds. She will be remembered not only for the love she
gave but for the strength she instilled and the memories
she created. Her legacy is not just in the years she lived,
but in the lives she touched. Though she is no longer with
us in body, her spirit remains ever-present—in the
laughter of her family, in the stories shared, and in the
love that continues to bind them together.
She is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, William
Steptoe, whose partnership with her was a testament to
enduring love. She leaves behind a legacy through her
cherished children and their spouses: Leniel Edward
Primm (Cecilia), Angela Dannette Primm, Kevin Lamont Primm (Lori), and Stacey Lavell Barnes (Ivelisse).
Dorothy’s love extended deeply to her grandchildren: Tanishia Lashawn Primm, Derrick Brown, Clive Brown, Shauniece Primm, Ja’juan Walter Bennett, Marshaa Leniece Murdock, Marquita Lena Primm, Brianna Glenn, Stacey Gabriel Barnes, Camron Lavell Barnes, Jaziah Micah Barnes, Alaynna Janae Justina Barnes, and Noah Santiago. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she poured into them love, guidance, and pride.
