With his family at his side, Edward P. Vigluicci passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the age of 92. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 62 years, Joan Vigluicci who passed away on September 6, 2012.
Born and raised in Ravenna, Ed was a graduate of Ravenna High School and Kent State University. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific, honorably discharged in 1948 at the rank of Sergeant. He became employed out of college at Allen Aircraft Products in Ravenna as an aeronautical design engineer where he remained for 44 years until his retirement.
Ed was the youngest of 6 children born to his parents, Joseph and Clotilda Vigluicci who emigrated to this country from Italy in the early 1900’s. His siblings who preceded him in death were John Vigluicci, Ralph Vigluicci, Fred Vigluicci, Mary Trivelli, and Kenneth Vigluicci. He was a devoted Catholic who was baptized and married at Immaculate Conception Church in Ravenna where he served as an usher for many years.
Ed was the patriarch of a large and loving Italian family. A kind and gentle man, he was skilled at drawing, carpentry, and fixing just about anything. His descendants will always look to his example of quiet dignity in living their own lives. “Un buon padre vale cento maestre.” He is survived by his children, Victor V. Vigluicci (Denise), Edward J. Vigluicci (Sharon), and Eva Maria Holian (Michael), four grandchildren, Vincent V. Vigluicci, (Justina) Jenny L. Doloresco (Joel), Steven Holian (Jeannette), and Kristen Corpora (Matthew), and seven great-grandchildren, Dominic, Vincent Jr., Matthew, Samuel, Gabriel, Thomas, and Jensen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend William Kraynak at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main Street, Ravenna, OH., Visitation for friends and family will be held one hour before Mass at the Church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Ravenna with military honors provided by the US Army and VFW Post 1055 Honor Guard.
Ed’s family extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Gardens at Liberty Park and Harbor Light Hospice for their care and kindness towards Ed in his final days.
