Emmet “Leeon” Phile (born in Monroe, Michigan 10/22/1933) went to be with the Lord in the early hours of Mar 23, 2024 after an unexpected sudden decline in health. He passed peacefully after spending the entire day surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and other loved ones.
He is survived by his children: Kevin Phile, (Shawn), Sandy Christani (Phile) (Ray), Jim Phile, (Mary) and Gary Phile. Very special to him are his grandchildren: Danielle Saltsman, (Ryan), Greg Phile, Jarrod Phile, Ricky Phile, Gavin Phile, Blake Phile, Abby Phile. Step-grandchildren; Dale Wesche, Ashley Christani and Haley Christani. Great-granddaughter and the glimmer of his eye; Quinn Saltsman and step-grandchild; Jackson Buso.
Leeon was preceded in death by his parents; Stanley and Gay Phile, sister Lowatha Phile and wife Nancy A. (Haiflich) Phile.
Leeon enjoyed many hobbies such as woodworking, carving, and building just about anything. He had many family trips to Canada for fishing. He liked working on puzzles with his best friend Lew. He continued his desire to grow by taking up guitar lessons about a month before his passing.
He joined the Army, right after graduating from Ravenna high school in 1954, and was stationed in Yokohama, Japan. While there, he was a truck driver transporting troops. Upon returning, he met his future wife Nancy and started a family.
He settled down on the edge of Ravenna and worked in the Tool and Die Industry. He raised, supported, and cared for his family through thick and thin. We are all so proud of him.
He was an active member of The First Church of God in Ravenna where he served as an Usher, Benevolence committee member, volunteered on many church repair projects and he even helped coach the church softball team for a bit.
Leeon was a kind and compassionate man, father, and friend. Loved to laugh, help out, and share good times. He was and is so very much loved and will be missed dearly by all who knew him well.
The family would like to thank Summa Hospice for their loving care, and The Briarwood of Stow for their wonderful care and compassion.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Tod Huston at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow with military honors at Grandview Memorial Park.
