

Essie Mae Ferrell was called home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2011. Essie was born in Birmingham, AL on June 6, 1927 to Rev. Beverly and Annie Bell Sadler. Essie received Christ at an early age and was baptized in Cleveland, OH at The First Born Church of The Living God.
After moving to Ravenna, OH, Essie joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Randolph. She served at Pilgrim Rest faithfully before moving to Windham, Ohio where she joined the First Baptist Church of Windham under the leadership of Rev. Bobby Williams. At First Baptist, she was ordained as a deaconess, served as Pastor’s Aid President, and was a member of the Mother’s Board. Mother Ferrell served faithfully until she became ill. She retired from Robinson Memorial Hospital.
Essie leaves to cherish her memory sister Sara Jackson of Ravenna, her sons Leverne/Rick (Marilyn), Anthony, Dwight, all of Ravenna, Delmar of Marion, OH, Mark, Kevin and Gregory of Akron, Daughters Debra of Charlotte, NC, Rena and Tondelayo of Kent, Anotoinetta of Ravenna; stepsons Denard, Anthony and George, special niece and nephew Gloria Mack and James Hadden of Ravenna, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Essie was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Beverly and Annie Bell Sadler, daughters Leona (Lady Bird) Latimer and Barbara Maxwell, grandson Dwayne Lott and special son-in-laws David Vance and Fillmore Lott.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM with funeral services following immediately at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 5504 S. Prospect St., Ravenna, Ohio. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
