

She was born December 6, 1935, in Dayton, Tennessee, to parents Claude and Blanche (Walker) Mathis. She was affectionately known as Evelyn to her family and friends.
Faith and family always came first in Evelyn’s life. She was a member of New Beginning Fellowship Church in Brimfield. Evelyn was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. She always spoke kindly to others and enjoyed gardening, cooking, and listening to country music.
Evelyn is survived by her children: James “Mike” (John Hostetler) Leech, her daughter Connie (Butch) Burkett, and her son-in-law Brian Ward. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Misty, Shane, and Josh, many loving great-grandchildren, and generations of nieces and nephews, as well as her siblings: Wilburn (Nancy) Mathis, Jane Woodburn, Mary Priest, and Kathy (Gary) Whitacker.
She was preceded in death by her mother Blanche Nancy Mathis, her father and step-mother Claude and Ellen Mathis, her husband James Richard Leech, her sons Randal R. Leech and Robert D. Leech, her daughter Nancy Ward, her granddaughters Haley Ward and Heather Skinner, and her siblings: Rose Smith, Gilbert Mathis, Danny Ray Mathis, Billy Ray Mathis, and Glen Mathis.
Her wishes for cremation are being honored. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the New Beginning Fellowship Church, with a luncheon to follow. Final resting place will be Grandview Memorial Park.
