George Edward Drass, resident of Kent, Ohio, passed away peacefully at University Hospital Portage Medical Center on Saturday, May 5, 2018. He is survived by his children: Dee Dee Pratt of Houston, widow of Dale Pratt of Rootstown, Oh. , Mike Drass of Kent, Bonnie (Glenn) Miller of Kent and Janet (Don) Lower of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Also survived by his brother Thomas Drass, sisters: Gretta Kephart, Gladys Shope, Karen McMillen and Gloria Stevens. Grandpa Drass will forever be remembered by twelve grandchildren: Derek (Lori) Lund; David (Keeley) Pratt; Jeffrey (Laura) Pratt; Brian (Meghan) Drass; Chrissy (Wade) Hillis; Erica Mazzola; Shae (Mark) Olesh; Danelle (Joe) Hickin; Doug Miller; Michelle (Brent) Harris; Heather (Steve) Thress; Eric (Amanda) Lower and twenty-one great-grandchildren. George was one of ten siblings born on December 24, 1929 in St. Lawrence, PA, the son of the late George Michael and Delila Crowell Drass. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy E. (Moyer) Drass and four brothers: David, Richard, Clarence and James Drass. George “Ed” as he was nicknamed by his family and friends, moved to Newport News, VA. in 1950 and worked constructing the USS United States Luxury Liner. In 1952 he moved his family to Newton Falls, Ohio where he worked at the Ravenna Arsenal. Ed retired from Rotek, Inc. in 1991. He went on to work part-time for Kent Police/Kent School District as a crossing guard until he retired at the age of 87 in 2017. His favorite things to do were watching vintage TV shows and enjoying a wonderful meal out with his family. Ed had been a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church of Ravenna. He touched the lives of many people with his everyday bright twinkle in his eyes, his warm smile and contagious giggle. Friends will be received at Bethel Baptist Church, 745 N. Freedom St., Ravenna, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. The funeral service will follow at 6:00pm with Pastor David Ballert officiating. George Edward Drass will eternally laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery located in La Jose, PA on Thursday, May 17, 2018 where a family graveside service will be held.
