She was born in Kent, Ohio on May 14, 1930 to Upshaw and Ossie (Woods) Head. She retired from Kent State University. Gladys was a life-long resident of Kent and a member of Union Baptist Church where she also served as a missionary.
She was a member of the Women’s Social Club of Kent, Ohio, NAACP, ALA Post in Kent, Oh. and the VFW of Stow, Oh. Gladys loved Bowling with friends, worked diligently with senior citizens, and was active in the Portage County community until her illness. She was a loving mother and friend.
Gladys is survived by her brother Frank (Hede) Head, daughter Sharon B. Smith, grandson Melvin V. Smith, granddaughter Tamara Wright and 10 great-grandchildren. Her brothers-in-laws Edward and Victor Lang, a host of nieces and nephews and special friends Flora Peoples and Joyce Brown, also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, Charles O. Watts, her grandson Dwight A. Smith, her sisters Ann Thomas, Lee Watts, Lois Little; brothers-in-laws Linnell Kinds, Wilber Little, Clarence Watts and her nephew Linnell Kinds Jr.
Friends will be received at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, on Saturday, July 18, 2020 from 10:00am until the funeral service, officiated by Rev. W. C. Watts, commencing at 11:00am. Interment will immediately follow at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.
