Herbert Wesley Pendleton

Herbert Wesley Pendleton, age 84 of Akron, formerly of Kent, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s on Friday, April 9, 2010, at Sunrise of Cuyahoga Falls. He left this world with a smile on his face.

Herbert was born August 17, 1925, in New Castle, Virginia, a son of the late John M. and Hannie E. (nee Beckner) Pendleton. He was a decorated Navy veteran of WWII, landing on Utah Beach during the Normandy Invasion. Later, he joined the VFW Post in New Castle.

He retired from Lamb Electric as a machinist and attended the Mogadore Baptist Church. Herbert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and also enjoyed bowling in his earlier years.

Survivors include his daughters: Linda (Bob) Kranak of Lakemore, Jill (Gary) Wimer of Kent, Joyce (Daniel) Coffield of Virginia Beach VA; sisters: Elizabeth McClanahan of New Castle VA, Eva Vines of Buchanan VA; brother: Jesse “JC” Pendleton of New Castle VA; also survived by his grandchildren: Kathy Flight, Kellie (David) Collier, Andrew Kranak, Nick Wimer, Daniel Coffield II, J. Wesley Coffield, Janine Coffield; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vera June Pendleton on August 11, 1998. His sisters Linda Pendleton, Esther Elmore, Elsie Layman, Eleanor Unroe, and his brothers Jim and William “Jack” Pendleton also preceded him in death.

Friends will be received Monday, April 12, 2010, from 5-7 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Friends may also call one hour prior to the 11:00 AM funeral service on Tuesday at the Millheim Baptist Church, 2661 Hayne Rd., Akron, OH 44312. Pastor Kim Lawrence will officiate the service. Graveside services with military honors will be held on at 1:30 PM Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Grandview Memorial Park in Ravenna.
