

James was born February 8, 1941, in Carlton, New York, a son of the late Harold and Margaret Furness. Jim worked as a carpenter out of Local 639 in Akron for 27 years. He was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps, and reached the rank of Lance Corporal during his service from 1958 – 1961.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years Judy (Whitacre) Furness; his sons: Craig (Jennifer) Furness and Michael (Danielle) Furness of Ravenna; daughters: Jodi (Mark) Furness-Thomas of Hubbard and Penny Furness of Ravenna. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren to cherish his memory: Tyler, Shanley, Shelby, Morgan, Tanner, Kylee, and two grandchildren from New York. Other surviving family members include his two sons Jimmy and Jeff Wells of New York; sisters: Shirley (Johnny) Gould of Kendall, NY, Sybel (James) Herring of Holly, NY, Janet Reis of Holly, NY, Eileanor Furness of Florida, Barbara (Bill) Schuler of North Carolina; brothers: William (Mary) Furness of Kent, NY, Lee Roy Furness of Texas, and sister-in-law Mrs. Shelva Furness of Waterport, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. James is preceded in death by his brothers Jackie, Estes, and Harold Furness.
Friends will be received Friday, October 28, 2011, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Funeral services will be officiated by Dr. Richard Skiver on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Baptist Church in Ravenna. Interment will follow with military honors at Grandview Memorial Park.
