He was born in Mabie, West Virginia, on July 28, 1944. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Juanita G.P. (Emigh) Turner and his step-father Joseph E. Turner, brothers Virgil and Jack Chewning, son Timothy B. Chewning, and grandson Nathan M. Chewning.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years Edie Mae Chewning, his step-sons: Jeff (Terri) Pickens, Denny (Ruth) Pickens, Shawn (Christie) Lowther, and Andy (Susan) Lowther; sister Joann J. (Johnny) Papanicolas, and brother Kenneth L. (Mary) Chewning. Jerry is also survived by his grandchildren: Josh Chewning, Samantha Chewning, Michael Pickens, Sara (John) Kurtz, Malinda Pickens, Corey (Kate) Pickens, Corey (Kate) Pickens, Heather (Joe) Svidron, Michael (Kaitlyn) Tata, Whitney Pickens, Katie Younkins, Katie (Tyler) Wenzel, Ashleigh Pickens, as well as his great-grandchildren, Landon James Wenzel, Benton Ray Wenzel, Adaline Renae Svidron and Amelia Rose Wenzel.
Jerry proudly served his country as a US Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and later joined VFW Post 1055 and American Legion 331. He retired from Land O’Lakes as a maintenance mechanic, and also worked for Coca-Cola, Rescar, Rosenthal Chevrolet, and the Big Run Shoe Factory.
Jerry enjoyed gardening, golfing, and bowling. He had a hole-in-one on #7 at the Kent State Golf Course and also bowled a perfect game. Bowling is how he actually met his wife, and family always came first in Jerry’s life.
His wishes for cremation are being honored and no services are scheduled. Jerry will be laid to rest on a later date at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.
