

He was born January 26, 1948, in Sutton, West Virginia, to parents Bennie and Gertrude (Barnette) Cottrill. Jerry proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Army in the Vietnam War. Later, he joined VFW Post 1055 in Ravenna. He worked for many years at the Ford Motor Company Walton Hills Plant as a tow motor operator.
Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking trips back to West Virginia. He also loved watching Westerns, singing karaoke, traveling and taking naps. Jerry would always be tinkering around the house, often in his woodworking shop.
Jerry is survived by his significant other and partner in crime Carol Petersen, his children: JoBeth (Scott) Rueschmann, Julia (Eric) Walkerow, Jason (Dusty) Cottrill, Josh (Jennifer) Cottrill, Erin (Jay) Braybon, and Cara (Joe) Kovalesky, as well as his 21 grandchildren and all of his loving great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Beulah Selman, Melvin Cottrill, Frank Cottrill, Carolyn Kilarsky, and Jeanette Scheetz, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Brenda Cottrill, his son Matthew Petersen, his siblings: Virgil, Willard, Jessie, and Norma Jean, and his best friend and beloved companion, Tanner.
His wishes for cremation are being honored. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life on Sunday, April 30, 2023 from 12 PM – 5 PM at the Ravenna VFW, 6000 New Milford Rd, Ravenna, Ohio 44266. The service will be at the beginning and then will be followed by a meal and fellowship.
