Jim Wilburn, affectionately known throughout his life as Bo, passed away at the age of 79, on September 27th, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, adventures, laughter, and memories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
Jim’s favorite place in the world was home, surrounded by his family. He also held a special place in his heart for Flint Farm in West Virginia, a place filled with memories, family, and the outdoors he loved so much.
Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, coon hunting, spending time with his dogs, family activities, and just about anything that got him outside and on an adventure. He loved being around people and was rarely without a story to tell. He had a way of making up songs, joking with friends, and flirting with just about everyone he met. His stories—and the way he told them—were a big part of what made Jim, Jim.
He was also very stubborn, a quality his family will surely remember with both a smile and a laugh. And if there was an opportunity to take a nap, Jim was going to find it. He could always find a way to fall asleep, especially with his grandbabies.
Jim lived in Portage Lakes, Akron, and Rootstown, making memories and building a life centered around the people and things he loved.
He is survived by his longtime partner, Chery Withnell, and his children, Lora Adair, John Joseph Wilburn, Kristina Toro, Kelly Tomsick, and Kyle Wilburn. His siblings include Vicki Stevens, Judi Cole, and John Flint, along with all his grandchildren, extended family, and many friends who will miss his humor, his stories, his songs, and his unmistakable personality.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Belma Flint; his stepfather, John Flint; and his biological father, Jimmie Wilburn Sr.
Jim leaves behind much more than memories. He leaves behind stories that will continue to be told, songs that will probably never quite make sense, adventures that will be remembered for years, and countless moments that will make his family laugh and say, “That was Dad.”
He was stubborn, funny, adventurous, a storyteller, a friend, a father, a grandfather, and completely one of a kind. There will never be another Jimmie.
Family and friends will be received to Celebrate Jim’s life on Saturday, October 10th, 2026, at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St. Ravenna, Ohio 44266, from 12 PM until 2 PM.
