She graduated from John Hay High School and worked at Hickock Electric as secretary to the purchasing agent. She married Martin J. Gut, son of Joseph and Victoria Gut, November 14, 1953. After Martin’s discharge from the Air Force, they lived in Garfield Heights where their six children were born. In January 1968, they moved to Rootstown. Joan worked for the Rootstown School District as the librarian clerk in the Middle School until she retired in 1983. Joan thoroughly enjoyed watching her ‘sporting family’ in all their activities, from her children to her great-grandchildren. Her favorite sayings ‘to the moon’ and ‘bushel’ will always be remembered.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Martin, brother Russell Peters, sister Anna Bennett and son Steven Gut.
She is survived by her children: Michael Gut, Kathleen (Fred) Herman, Cynthia (Bruce) Hensley, Dennis Gut, Monica (Dave-deceased) Butler; grandchildren Nichole (Dave) English, Brian (Christy) Hensley, Alisha Gut, Nathan Gut, Molly Gut, Taylor (Scott) Smith and Mason Butler, and 14 great-grandchildren – Gavin, Kaira, Bayley, Morgan, Raegan, Teagan, Lucas, Miles, Evie, Bryson, Preston, Adelynn, Dylon and Zoey; as well as many nieces and nephews, and her special friend Lana Bennett.
Friends will be received at St. Peter of the Fields church, 3487 Old Forge Rd., Rootstown, on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 10am until the 11am Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. Zachary Coulter.
