September 21, 1946 – December 5, 2023
John Kolt, a man of remarkable skill, strong will, and enduring love, passed away on December 5, 2023, comfortably at home and surrounded by his children, at the age of 77. Born on September 21, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio, to John and Elizabeth (Betty) Koltiska nee Roscoe, John's journey through life was marked by a deep passion for mechanics and an unwavering commitment to his family.
In 1978, John's heart led him to the countryside, where he found an abandoned farmhouse that would become the canvas for his restoration expertise. Over the course of 45 years, he transformed the property into a cherished family haven, a place where his kids and their many friends enjoyed driving golf carts & riding dirt bikes, swimming in the pool, fishing in the pond, and playing baseball on the field he made for them.
From a young age, John was skilled at the art of machinery, leading him to become a journeyman tool and die maker by the age of twenty-one. His entrepreneurial spirit flourished with the founding of Tri-State Tool & Die, a venture that allowed him to retire at the young age of 47 and devote more time to the joys of life.
John's hobbies were as diverse as his skills. He found joy in the art of antique restoration and woodworking. His knack for fixing anything and everything earned him a reputation as the go-to person for friends and family in need. In quiet moments, he immersed himself in crossword puzzles, demonstrating a sharp mind and a love for intellectual challenges.
His sanctuary was his barn, where he spent countless hours surrounded by tools and the satisfaction of creating and fixing. Mowing the lawn became more than a chore—it was a therapeutic ritual, a time to connect with nature and reflect on the simple pleasures of life.
John is survived by his 3 children and their partners: Jeff (Nicole) Kolt, Valerie (Tyler M) Kolt, and Doug (Jennie) Kolt and 4 grandchildren: Gabby, Bree, Angelina and Olivia. He is preceded in death by his sweetest granddaughter, Claire Kolt, who he was most looking forward to seeing again, along with his only sibling, Jim Koltiska, and parents, John and Betty Koltiska.
His legacy lives on in the echoes of laughter within the farmhouse walls, the meticulously kept barn, and the countless memories created in the embrace of family.
A memorial service to celebrate John's rich and fulfilling life will be held at a future date, to be determined.
May John Kolt rest in eternal peace, his hands forever remembered for the love, care, and craftsmanship he brought to all aspects of his life.
