He was born April 22, 1937, in Ravenna, to parents Bruno and Mary (DeGregorio) Spano. John was the last surviving of their children, having been preceded in death by his siblings: Peter, Patrick, Philomena, Frances, Rosemary, Samuel, Dominick “Dutch”, Mary “Dolly”, and Elizabeth. John is survived by generations of loving nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
He was raised as a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, and also was a member of St. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Cleveland. John proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy aboard the USS Forestall Aircraft Carrier.
After his military service, John pursued a career as a barber, beautician, and hairdresser, owning Studio 306 in Bainbridge for many years. When his brother “Dutch” passed away, John took over the family business, Spano’s Bar.
His wishes for cremation are being honored. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Cemetery in Ravenna. A time of fellowship will follow at Spano’s Bar, 455 W Highland Ave, Ravenna.
